language, damn you…

There were no speech at the beginning, there were no language. Human was very upset about it. He felt frustrated because he wasn’t able to communicate with others.

He tried to express himself through gestures and pictures. After some time, pictures evolved into lines of different shapes — symbols. These symbols were given names, sounds. After a while, human started to put them together, creating more complicated sounds. He named things, emotions, ideas, values with the sounds he made…

We can’t be sure, if every primitive human, was thinking about the same thing, while calling love „love”, a cup „a cup”, freedom „freedom”.

Paradoxically, we’ve become slaves of our language. The language has dominated the meaning. We can only express this, what was given a sound. It is said, that things have its names. Actually, we should say, that names have its things.

Something, what supposed to give as a freedom of communication, limits the truth about the world to around 400.000 words. Is the world really so simple?

Wow. That was a little mind opening. 400,000 may be enough for Earth. The universe? Forget about it. I say we need more words. : D

  2. Some people create horrible new 133t words everyday, science has given us the technical wonders of pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis along with a 189,819 letter word describing titin (which isn’t a word, according to lexicographers), while Shakespeare contributed honorificabilitudinitatibus.
